GERSTEL Baton software
Working on the move in the lab
The Baton Software for Pocket PCs enables easy and efficient control of GERSTEL modules and instruments in combination with any chromatography software and hardware. Baton also simplifies set-up and maintenance for analysis systems that are controlled through a network PC located away from the instrument. Baton replaces the previously used dedicated handheld controller while adding many new functions.
Method Editor
The Baton Method Editor is used for generating, copying, modifying and storing methods. A selected method can be uploaded to the instrument and activated or a single-method analysis sequence can be generated and uploaded.
Real-time Status Monitoring and logging
Baton enables efficient real-time monitoring of the instrument status including actual parameters for active modules. Instrument parameters that are of highest interest can be defined by the user and highlighted for at-a-glance viewing. When connected to the controller C506, the Pocket PC can track errors and /or analysis runs and create a log file of these. Two log settings can be selected: A standard user log, or a comprehensive service log, that tracks and logs every action in the instrument in order to help GERSTEL Service perform trouble-shooting more efficiently.
Instrument Control
Baton controls the following GERSTEL modules and instruments:
- Cooled Injection System CIS
- Thermal Desorption System TDS
- TDS A autosampler
- Pyrolysis Module PM 1
- TDS G On-Line
- Cryo Trapping System CTS 1 and CTS 2
- Auxiliary Heater
- Preparative Fraction Collector PFC
For TDS A users, Baton can perform direct instrument control tasks during daily operation such as preparing the TDS A for a tube magazine change or activating the TDS A tube load / unload functions.
In order to perform sample preparation and sample introduction using the MultiPurpose Sampler MPS or to operate the complete system including GC/MS or LC/MS from one integrated method and one sequence table, the GERSTEL MAESTRO Software is required. MAESTRO also provides additional functionality such as multi-method sequences.
Communication
The Pocket PC and Baton can be connected to the controller C506 using a USB cable connected to one of two USB host ports in the docking station. Bluetooth enables control of a total of seven additional instruments or modules, one at a time. The Pocket PC is equipped with WLAN; SD and CF memory card slots ensure that data back-ups are easily performed.
